Mississauga Gait Scan

The GaitScan™ is a revolutionary method of assessing your biomechanics. It is a computerized pressure plate which measures distribution of force throughout a patient's foot during each step.

This state of the art analysis is able to produce objective detailed data that aids in the diagnosis of abnormal foot biomechanics. It has an industry record of 4096 sensors scan at 125 scans/second providing a sophisticated measure of faulty foot biomechanics / gait.

How does GaitScan™ work?

1) Scans Foot

As a patient walks (or runs) across the plate, thousands of tiny sensors scan that bottom surface of the foot. During the scan, the system records timing sequences during gait and captures the relative load of each area of the foot. An increase in magnitude of force is reflected in a color change on the output report. On the two ends of the spectrum, blue means a low value and red means a high value.

2) Maps Foot Pressure

Wherever the foot does not touch the pressure plate, the image appears black. A pes cavus foot (high arched) will have very little mid foot contact and therefore will show black in most of the foot. A pes planus foot (flat foot) will have almost no black in the mid foot as the entire arch is not touching the scanner.

3) Produces a Report

The system also has the ability to compare your foot to a foot with ideal biomechanics, and can determine your need for orthotics. Even if you do not have any foot pain or obvious gait problems.  This information will help determine if a foot is functioning in an inefficient manner, or if the gait sequence is not normal.
